Youth Power
At Work at the
Co-op
Helping Students
Succeed
Nolin RECC is helping
local youth find out what they want in life while earning
money at the same time. During the summer, we employ college
students that move back home to work. And during the school
year, Nolin employs co-op students from local high schools.
High school seniors
have been getting firsthand knowledge of what a cooperative
is and how it operates in a program called Career Work Experience,
also known as the co-op program. The program focuses on cooperative
work experience for the student during their senior year of
high school. Seniors must meet certain grade level requirements
before applying for the program. After an interview process,
a special committee from the school places the students in
jobs. In addition, the youth receive personal counseling and
guidance from school officials to assist them in making meaningful
occupational choices.
Nolin RECC has
employed several students throughout the years who are enrolled
in the co-op program or are home from college and just trying
to earn extra money. This is a unique way to help educate
our youth about the importance of cooperatives while giving
them an opportunity to discover and plan their futures.
