What are Power Surges and where do they come from?
Power Surges are Sudden powerful increases in voltage that can damage or destroy household appliances and electronic equipment. While lightning is dramatic in effect, it is by no means the major cause of power surges. Birds, animals and trees interfering with power lines, auto accidents Involving utility poles,. refrigerators, vacuum cleaners and many other factors can cause momentary surges.
After checking to see that your home has a proper ground system. a HomeGuard Defender socket device is attached to your meter base by a Nolin representative This device is designed to reduce potentially damaging external, high-voltage spikes and surges to a level before they enter your home. Finally, for your more sensitive equipment, a special five piece plug-in starter kit will be provided for your use inside the home that includes:
- One 8-Receptacle Plug Strip
- One 3-Receptacle WallMount Unit
- One Single Receptacle WallMount Unit
- One Coaxial Cable Television Module
- One Fax/Modem Module
The entire HomeGuard Defender Plus System is intended to provide you with an additional level of protection. Extra plug-in devices are available to meet your particular needs.
How do I get the HomeGuard Defender Plus System?
Simply fill out the request form above and return it to Nolin. A Nolin representative will call on you, or you can sign up for the program at any Nolin office. A monthly charge of $6.00 will be conveniently included on your electric statement. Enrollment period is for a minimum of 3 years. The equipment, including the inside surge protector package, remains the property of Nolin. If you would rather own than lease the system, you can purchase a complete system for $260 plus tax. There is also a $50 installation charge for each HomeGuard Defender Plus System.

What about the Warranty?
The package warranty is simple! The meter base device carries a 15-year product replacement warranty against surge damage. It also covers all standard appliances (washer, dryer, refrigerator, stove, HVAC unit, etc. (excluding microprocessor units) up to, 1,000 per appliance with a maximum coverage of $10,000 when damage is the result of a surge. All indoor surge devices carry a lifetime product replacement warranty against surge damage and up to a $25,000 repair or replacement warranty on all properly connected equipment should surge damage occur due to failure of the HomeGuard Defender Plus System. All warranties are through the manufacturer not Nolin.
